| HOLE SPOTLIGHT: EL CARDONAL, #17 |

At El Cardonal, the views get better the higher you climb and nowhere is that more true than the 17th tee, one of the highest points on the entire course. From here, players get a sweeping, panoramic look at Diamante and the Pacific Ocean before hitting a shot, making it one of the most photographable moments.
On a course full of downhill par-4s, the 17th is the most impressive. Although the hole features a wide fairway, there is obvious trouble down the left side from tee to green. The second shot is the real test as bunkers guard the left and front of the green, with a hazard just beyond them, punishing any shot hit off-line. The green itself runs diagonally from front-right to back-left, meaning a well-shaped draw is the smart play into the pin, exactly the kind of demanding, strategic test Tiger Woods built his design around.

Since 2020, Diamante First Tee has set out to empower kids and teens in the Diamante and TAFER communities through golf, life skills, and the program’s core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, judgment and empathy. What started as an introduction to a sport that isn’t easily accessible in Mexico has grown into something bigger. In just six years, participants who had never picked up a club are now competing in regional and national tournaments.
Diamante First Tee’s partnership with the WWT Championship runs through tournament week, from the Oasis Short-Am to the Junior Golf Clinic, giving program participants a direct connection to the PGA TOUR event happening in their own backyard.
