        Argentina’s Angel Cabrera To Play OHL Classic For First Time


        “El Pato” is Highest Ranked Latin American Player in the World Playa del Carmen, Mexico - Tournament officials announced today the commitment of Angel Cabrera, the two-time major champion winner and runner-up at this year’s Masters Tournament. It will be Cabrera’s first time playing in the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba scheduled for November 11-17 at the Greg Norman-designed El Camaleón Golf Club in Mexico’s Riviera Maya and Cancún region. Cabrera is currently ranked 57th overall in the world and is the top-ranked player Latin American player. The 44-year-old has been affectionately nicknamed “El Pato” or “The Duck” due to his swaying gait. He was born in Cordoba, Argentina and has won 51 events worldwide since turning professional at the age of 20. His biggest wins were the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters. At the U.S. Open he beat Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk by a stroke. His Masters Tournament victory came via a three-way playoff over Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry. This year, Cabrera lost to Adam Scott at the Masters Tournament on the second hole of a playoff.

        “To have Latin America’s highest ranked player in the field is another reason we are so excited about this year’s tournament,” said Joe Mazzeo, Tournament Director. “Angel is fun to be around on and off the golf course and I encourage all of the fans in the area to come see him play.” Cabrera has always competed around the world, playing tournaments on the PGA TOUR, European Tour, Asian Tour, Argentine Tour and PGA TOUR Lationamerica. He has played on the International Team in four Presidents Cups including this year’s edition of the biennial competition. The field for this year’s World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba also includes 11 of the top 30 on the PGA TOUR’s Career Money List. Davis Love III leads this group at No.6 followed by (7) David Toms, (11) Justin Leonard, (18) Scott Verplank, (19) Stuart Appleby, (20) Mike Weir, (21) Rory Sabbatini, (23) Robert Allenby, (25) Charles Howell, III, (27) Jerry Kelly and (29) Mark Calcavecchia. The 2013 edition of the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba represents the beginning of a new era for Mexico’s only PGA TOUR event. For the past six years, the tournament has been played opposite the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship. This year, the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba has its own date on the PGA TOUR calendar. Players have until Friday, November 8 to commit to the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. Additionally, the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba has increased its purse to US$6 million and will offer a winner’s check of US$1.08 million as well as a full allotment of 500 FedExCup points to the champion. The prize purse continues to be the largest in all of golf in Latin America. The event is contracted until 2018, representing a total commitment of 12 years by the PGA TOUR to Mexico. The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba is the only golf tournament staged in Mexico which offers full television coverage - with 12 hours of live High Definition broadcast slated for 2013. OHL, a multi-billion dollar construction and development company based in Madrid, Spain, serves as the tournament’s primary sponsor after developing the Mayakoba resort as a tourism complex. Included in the award-winning resort are three luxury hotels and the tournament venue, the Greg Norman-designed El Camaleón Golf Club. Further development at Mayakoba will see the construction of two additional luxury hotels and the creation of a second phase of the property which will ultimately feature a second championship-caliber golf course and additional hotels and real estate properties. Through six years, Mayakoba has welcomed some of the biggest names and most accomplished players in professional golf. Among the event’s past participants are: Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, K.J. Choi, John Daly, Jason Day, David Duval, Bill Haas, J.B.
