Past Champions, Mexican Qualifiers and World Wide Technology Ambassadors set to Compete in World Wide Technology Championship
Annual PGA TOUR Event Returns to Los Cabos next week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Los Cabos, Mexico (October 31, 2024) – Defending champion and World Wide Technology Ambassador Erik van Rooyen leads a group of players who will compete in the 18th World Wide Technology Championship when it returns to Los Cabos November 4-10 on Diamante’s El Cardonal Golf Course.
Other past champions currently in the 120-player field include Harris English (2013), Charley Hoffman (2014), Patton Kizzire (2017) and Matt Kuchar (2018). Additionally, Camilo Villegas, who finished runner-up last year, will return. Villegas, who lost to van Rooyen on the 72nd hole when van Rooyen made a dramatic eagle, went on to win the PGA TOUR’s event a week later.
Joining these six, will be five Mexican players led by PGA TOUR member Raul Pereda, who earned their way into the field in various ways. Santiago De La Fuente earned the first spot via the Clasificatorio Mexicano presented by National Car Rental on October 8. Isidro Benítez also earned a spot in the field by winning the Mexico Match Play on October 9. Both of these events were exclusive to Mexican golfers. Emilio Gonzalez and Omar Morales have both accepted sponsor exemptions to compete in the annual PGA TOUR event.
Other World Wide Technology Ambassadors joining van Rooyen currently in the field are Keith Mitchell, Ben Griffin, Harry Higgs, Justin Suh, Austin Eckroat, and Luke Donald. Taylor Montgomery, also in the field, is a Diamante Ambassador.
Tournament officials, in conjunction with the PGA TOUR and the PGA of America’s Southern California Section, will conduct the Monday Open Qualifier on November 4 in Los Cabos at Palmilla Golf Club on the Arroyo-Mountain course. As is customary on the PGA TOUR, four successful players from the Monday open qualifying tournament will earn the final positions in the field.
Open to all players, both pros and amateurs who meet certain handicap requirements, the Monday Qualifier will feature a field of approximately 72 players. Those who are not exempt must participate in a pre-qualifier, three of which will be contested in Southern California on October 30 and 31 and in Los Cabos on November 1.
The World Wide Technology Championship, the longest running PGA TOUR event in Mexico, is a 72-hole stroke play event and is part of the season-long FedExCup competition. All four rounds will be televised globally through the PGA TOUR’s extensive worldwide television distribution network, including Golf Channel in the United States and Golf Channel Latin America in Mexico and throughout Latin America.
