Q. Tano, round of 64. Your thoughts on your play this afternoon?
TANO GOYA: Yeah, I felt great today. Felt very confident off the tee, but also on the greens. So yeah, I played great. It was nice to finish. In the dark, but still like imagined to make a birdie there on the last, which is a nice finish.
Q. It was all around solid, but was there something particular, special that made a difference for you?
TANO GOYA: I mean, nothing I can think of. I mean, I just kept focus and kept doing my game and just picking the targets, rolling it nice over the greens.
Q. You moved to 9 under and then a couple of bogeys. Take us through that part of the round and finishing with a birdie.
TANO GOYA: The putt on 16 I wasn't expecting to be that slow up the hill there, but also it just jumped a couple times, lost speed and it wasn't the best putt.
Other than that, 17, I just hit a little right of the tee. I feel like I got punished a little bit on that part of the course. It was like deep in this hole so I didn't have any options more than just chip it out. I had a good chance for par and I had a bad read, but other than that, I feel like I was playing great. So I came to 18, I hit a great tee shot so I took advantage of that.
Q. Talk about the birdie and playing almost in the darkness there at the end.
TANO GOYA: I was happy that they blew the horn tee when we already hit the tee shot. I was skeptical because guys were taking a little bit longer on the greens, so I was like I want to be able to see something. But I had the perfect yardage and had a good iron shot, so I cannot imagine that when I hit a shot I didn't know where it finished, but I felt like it was going to be pretty good. Gave myself an eagle chance. Yeah, it was tough to read the last putt because I couldn't see much, but at the same time I wanted to finish to get a little more rest for tomorrow.
Q. Finally, we spoke on Tuesday, this is three events left in the fall and you need to get some points, get in position to secure your card.
TANO GOYA: Yeah.
Q. So this is a big week and this is a great way to start a week.
TANO GOYA: Yeah. I mean, I've been working very hard all year and this is a point where, OK, this is all I can do is just keep fighting. I mean, keep believing in myself. As you said, three more chances out there and going to make the most of it.
Q. What do you think has held you back this season?
TANO GOYA: I mean, it's tough to say. It's my rookie year, all the courses, this is the first time for me. Also, playing with crowds sometimes play a big role of getting a little nervous at times. Got to start a little bit on things that maybe should have let go more and be more myself. I've actually been playing nicely all year, I had good rounds and had good tournaments, but I think that belief kind of kept me out of finishing higher up in some weeks.
But other than -- I grew a lot this year in my game and I feel like really solid in some parts. There's room for improvement, but I'm on my way there and I think I still have pretty good chances here in the last three tournaments, so planning to make the most of it.
Q. You shot 64 in the first round of the Mexico Open. Does the PGA TOUR need more tournaments in Mexico?
TANO GOYA: For sure, yeah. I think really Mexico has my heart in a lot of ways. I'm happy to play here, with the Latin American crowds, the food is great and people are so happy and it brings joy in the tournament, so I love it.
