Q. Jeffrey, great playing, 11 under through two rounds. What's been working so well for you out there?
JEFFREY KANG: Just been hitting some good iron shots, placing myself well off the tee, giving myself a lot of birdie looks and making some putts. Missed a few today, but overall that's kind of been the key.
Q. What went into the decision to play that open qualifier that got you through into this event?
JEFFREY KANG: Just being so close to home. I'm from L.A. and the pre-qualifier was in San Diego. Yeah, I've been kind of in offseason mode, so a lot of Monday qualifiers I've been trying to go to and play as much as I can. It's nice to be able to make it.
Q. I think you made three starts last season, you Mondayed into Byron Nelson this year. What have you learned from those starts on the PGA TOUR?
JEFFREY KANG: Just I wouldn't say really -- I wouldn't say that's why I'm playing better, but I'd say just knowing that I can play and what kind of game I'll need to be able to compete out here. Just getting used to the type of competition, the golf course, the environment, all sorts of things like that, I think that definitely helped just kind of settle in a lot faster this week.
Q. What were some of the highlights from your round?
JEFFREY KANG: I made a good up-and-down on 11, the par 3. Pulled it a little bit into the bunker and had probably like a seven-, eight-footer for par. Just came off a bogey on 9, I think, so that was kind of a rough stretch of holes, but to come out par on that hole kind of kept my round going. I wouldn't say anything too stand-out.
Q. What does simply making the cut in a PGA TOUR event mean for you?
JEFFREY KANG: A lot, especially this is my first one and to sit pretty close to the leader is also a bonus. Yeah, it means a lot. I've done it a couple times now, playing on the PGA TOUR, and haven't been really able to push through that yet, so being able to finally do it feels good.
Q. Do you know what your biggest check you've ever earned is?
JEFFREY KANG: Probably my win in China in 2018, so probably like 30, 40 grand. Yeah, I'd say that's probably my biggest one.
Q. What was that tournament?
JEFFREY KANG: That was in PGA TOUR China, so that was in Chengdu, I think. That's when I won, so that was my biggest one. Hopefully this is bigger.
