Q. Off to a great start today. Can you take us through your round?

TOM WHITNEY: Yeah. So started off really quick, birdie, birdie, birdie, and then made a bogey where the scoring average is easily going to be over par on that hole. So didn't really get too down on myself after that and just kept the pedal down.

Fortunately for me, on a windy day like today I don't have a lot of mistakes either that I made strategically or with my execution out there.

Q. Do you feel like this course fits your game?

TOM WHITNEY: I do. One of my strengths is I can keep the ball very low whether it be a wedge or with my driver. Anytime you're apexing at 35, 40 feet above ground, those crosswinds aren't really going to touch my drive that much. Makes it a little easier for me to keep it in play.

Q. Obviously it's only Thursday and it's only the first group, the morning wave that's done. Can you talk a little bit about how you feel about being 5 under through the round today?

TOM WHITNEY: Yeah. Starting the day on this golf course you're thinking I need to get it to 6, 7, 8. Then the wind starts blowing and you kind of temper those expectations. I'm very pleased with 5 under. I parred both par 5s on the back nine, but at the same time I stayed bogey free as well on that side. That's definitely going to be the side that's going to be biting a lot of golfers today, so I'm perfectly happy with where I'm at.

Q. Do you change your game up at all going into tomorrow?

TOM WHITNEY: No. I'll see what the wind's doing and keep hitting the same low shots out there.

Q. Did you plan your shirt with the desert?

TOM WHITNEY: Absolutely, yes.
