Q. Today, 11-under 61, Nick. What was working so well for you?
NICK DUNLAP: Everything. Just kind of one of those days. Golf's been very hard recently and today was the opposite of that. I think I hit every fairway. The fairways are pretty forgiving out here for the most part. Gave myself a ton of good iron and wedge opportunities and rolled it really, really nice.
Q. Why has golf been hard recently?
NICK DUNLAP: It just has, it's a hard game. Kind of seems like if something can go wrong it has recently. Just try not to make it personal in a way and just kind of come out here and try to have as much fun as I can. We're in a pretty cool spot.
Q. When you say not make it personal, do you mean to focus more on technique and hoping that eventually it will come?
NICK DUNLAP: No. I just think golf can make - what way to put it. Golf can make you be very, very hard on yourself, especially when you're putting a lot of work in, you're not getting good results, might get a couple bad breaks. Some days it just feels like you never have a good number or feels every wind might make you uncomfortable. Kind of seems like that's how it's been for me recently and today was a nice change of pace.
Q. Bogey-free round, what was working? What was feeling good today?
NICK DUNLAP: Everything. Just kind of started off the tee, I think I hit every fairway, gave myself a ton of opportunities to attack some of these pins. We had really scorable conditions this morning, greens were in great shape and I just kind of (inaudible) iron shots to gimmee range and made a couple good putts.
Q. Walk me through that final one on 18.
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, Hunter really wanted me to hit right and I was trying - I was kind of - ball was kind of matting down there, it was really tight, grainy, kind of sandy. Fortunately I kind of had that slope, I could kind of bang it into the slope. If I gas it, it goes too far and I've got 10, 12 feet back up the hill. It just kind of came out perfect, trickled in the hole.
Q. As you said, it's perfect conditions out here, very scorable course, but did a round like this feel like it was coming with things you've been working on this fall?
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, I've been playing a lot better at home, played nice Utah first round, just didn't play well second round. I've been seeing a lot of signs of improvement, especially at home. Like I said, first round Utah was nice.
Q. Hitting every fairway, how good did that feel for you?
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, it was pretty good. It was nice playing out of that stuff, I hadn't done it in a little while. It was nice not having to find the ball in the desert, just go out to the fairway.
Q. Can you pinpoint what a turning point was for you with the driver?
NICK DUNLAP: No, not necessarily. I just think it's just gotten a little bit better. I think it was at a point where I wasn't just going to immediately jump back and start driving it amazing. It was just kind of slowly keep trying to build each day.
I've still got a lot of work to do. I've been working a lot with Scott Hamilton, we've been doing some good stuff. I know what I need to work on, now it's just going out there and trusting it.
Q. What did you learn about yourself this season?
NICK DUNLAP: A lot, a lot. I guess hasn't been an easy one, but at the same time I could be doing a lot worse things. I'm still playing on the PGA TOUR, I've got a lot of time, I'm still young and I'm just honestly trying to learn as much as I can.
Q. What do you think a round like today can do for you confidence-wise?
NICK DUNLAP: It can definitely springboard you, but for me it's just go out there, try to execute exactly our game plan tomorrow, put the ball in the fairway. Irons feel really, really good. Made a small tweak in the putter last week and that's been awesome, ball was starting exactly where I was looking today. That's been the strength of my game, I love putting, I love hitting irons. So if I can give myself a chance to do that, I think I like where I'll end up.
Q. You said you hit a bunch of irons close. What was your favorite one today?
NICK DUNLAP: That's a good question. I hit two really good ones. I hit a nice draw 8iron in on 11, it was kind of exactly what I envisioned. I hit another good one on 16. I felt like I had to hit that one pretty solid to kind of cover the hazard short right if I did kind of thin it a little bit, and it wasn't a 7iron. Long's not great so I kind of had to hit a pretty good one there and hit it perfect to 15 feet below the hole. So I think there was a lot of good iron shots today. I hit a lot of them where I was looking and if I did miss it, I missed it in the proper spot.
