Q. Nick, you find yourself in a great position heading into the weekend, 5 under today despite what happened there on 16. How would you characterize the round today?
NICK DUNLAP: Really good. I missed one fairway and one green. Hit it out of play on 7, my 16th hole, but outside of that I played really nice. Greens got a little bumpy in the evening. Yeah, really, really happy with how I played.
Q. Yeah, speaking of your 16th hole, got a bit of a tough break there. Just describe what the situation was.
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, I just hit it right, my only bad swing off the tee all week. This place gives you a lot of room off the tee but if you do miss it, then you're going to pay the price for it.
Q. You spoke yesterday about being in a positive mindset. How do you maintain that positive mindset as you go into a weekend where you have an opportunity to win a golf tournament?
NICK DUNLAP: Just keep it fun. Talk about fishing and hunting with Hunter pretty much the past two days and we just had a blast doing it, played some good golf.
Q. Opened yesterday with a 61, kind of picked up right where you left off, an effortless front nine there. How are you feeling after Round 2?
NICK DUNLAP: Good. Really, really nice. Honestly, just one bad swing on my 16th hole, on hole 7. Didn't get a couple putts to go in on my back nine, but yeah, I played really solid, hit it where I was looking on pretty much every hole. It's just I'd take 5 under any day of the week.
Q. Any birdie hole or even a par stick out in particular from today's round?
NICK DUNLAP: I thought I hit two really good ones on 18. I hit a really, really good 3wood on 18. I think that will be one for the memory bank. A lot of good tee shots, a lot of good iron shots, just yesterday they went to two feet, today they went to 8 to 10. It was a little harder to make them.
Q. Was that hole No. 6? How do you after 6 going into holes 7 just kind of reset after the double?
NICK DUNLAP: Six, the par 5?
Q. Was it 16? After 7 just going into 8, how do you reset?
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, just bad swing. I try not to be too hard on myself, I'm allowed to make a bad swing here and there. I guess I've driven it really nicely off the tee. Just kind of wash it and move on. Made a good one down 8, hit a good iron shot, didn't make the putt.
Q. Talk about fishing and hunting with Hunter. Have you ever gone fishing here in Cabo? A lot of deep sea fishing.
NICK DUNLAP: I haven't. I was thinking about maybe going on Monday. We'll see. I know the flights out of here are a little tricky. We'll see. I know it's really, really good.
Q. How can you compare this year with last year?
NICK DUNLAP: This year with last year?
Q. Yes.
NICK DUNLAP: I played better last year. No, I just, I'm still really young, I'm trying to learn every week. It's nice, this year I've seen all the golf courses so a lot of my Mondays have been a little bit easier. I'm traveling on Monday instead of getting there on Sunday, so I have one whole day kind of each week, each week that I play that I don't feel I have to go learn the golf course, which is nice. But yeah, I should still be in college, so I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.
Q. Started working with Scott Hamilton.
NICK DUNLAP: Umhmm.
Q. When did that relationship start?
NICK DUNLAP: I'd probably get this wrong, I want to say right before John Deere maybe. I kind of saw him here and there starting around Travelers and then I really started working with him kind of before John Deere and then kind of into the break. Went and saw him last week, we did some good work.
Q. And what made you or why did you turn to Scott specifically?
NICK DUNLAP: Just with how simple he putts everything. He's a really smart guy, he knows his stuff, but he's able to kind of say it to me in a way that really makes sense and I can comprehend it really well. I think we've got a good thing going.
Q. Has any of that kind of helped with some confidence here during the season?
NICK DUNLAP: Absolutely. Finally kind of during that break I started to shoot some good numbers at home, which is that's where it starts. It's hard to come out here and play a really good round if you're not doing it at home, it doesn't really kind of translate like that. So if you're playing good at home, playing good practice rounds, playing good the first couple days, just kind of try to keep that going, keep the confidence building.
Q. Have you been able to talk to Scott after yesterday's round?
NICK DUNLAP: We text a little bit. We have a very text here and there kind of relationship. I don't think either of us like being on the phone a whole heck of a lot. I know he's watching and rooting me on.
Q. You said you're going to eat the same meal for the fifth straight night tonight?
NICK DUNLAP: Yeah, probably quesadilla. I've had a rotation of quesadilla and pizza. I don't know if I flip a coin or something.
