Q. Ben, solid round today. Solid round the past three days. Just talk about how it's been this week.
BEN GRIFFIN: Yeah, it's been really solid. Having a lot of fun out there. It's an awesome venue, awesome week. Obviously I'm ambassador with Worldwide Technology, so it's always fun to come here and have some fun with all their customers, clients and employees and then also mix it in with some competitive golf.
It's been an awesome time so far in Cabo and my game has been solid. Been hitting a lot of fairways, hitting a lot of greens, giving myself a lot of looks. Feel like I could be even lower, just with a couple misses that I've had, a couple reads more than anything. They can be a little tricky to read sometimes.
No, just been very steady and I've just got to continue to do that tomorrow, and I think I'll have a really good chance.
Q. 15 was the toughest hole out there today. Can you just talk through the pin location and what it looked like?
BEN GRIFFIN: Yeah, fortunately I've played here every single year since they started coming to Diamante. I learned right from the getgo just from playing partners I was playing with that that's just not a pin you can go for. Rookies coming here for the first time, you might overlook it a little bit and try to get aggressive, and that's a pin that can make or break your tournament.
Even though I had pretty much a wedge in my hand, or it would have been 9 if I had gone at the pin, I was playing significantly away from that pin and just trying to put it in the middle and try and get out of there with a 4 because 4 on that hole, to most pins but specifically that back left, if I make a 4 there I'm picking up most years it's between a third and a half shot.
Just trying to play to my strengths. There's a lot of pins out there that I can attack and try to make birdies, and that's just one that you can. But you can also make a 7 or 8 very fast, and I'm sure there were some guys that probably did that today.
Q. You said earlier this week that you didn't feel as sharp as you probably should, and yet you're right here in contention. What's been the key mentally? Are the vibes just high or has something clicked?BEN GRIFFIN: The funny thing about me is I never really feel that sharp, especially early in the weeks. I'm like the worst proam player. I topped a driver in the proam. I kind of show up in tournaments for some reason. I think it's because I focus in a little bit more and am playing for a little bit more.
Even going back to Napa, I didn't feel good about my game, and then grinded on Wednesday, just put in a little extra work, and sure enough, I had a 36hole lead and probably a 54-hole lead there.
Golf is a funny game. You can feel really good with your game and maybe not have good finishes, and you can be a little off but get it done.
My game is fine. It's always fine. It's just, I think us pros are hard on ourselves and try to be more perfect than we need to be sometimes. I think that's what we all try to chase. We all try to chase perfection on the range. Out there on the course, we want to hit the perfect shot at the right time, but in reality, every player has their tendencies, and I think I'm really good at understanding my tendencies, and that's why I'm able to course manage courses a little bit better than most probably and give myself a lot of good looks out there, and sure enough, I'm doing that this week.
Q. You're trailing by two heading into the final round. How will it feel to basically just freewheel it tomorrow and see where the chips fall?BEN GRIFFIN: Yeah, it's been interesting; in my PGA TOUR career I haven't been in that many secondtolast or thirdtolast groups. I feel like I've either been four or five or I'm a really long shot or I'm in that final group, so I'm actually excited to be a chaser tomorrow.
It's important to have that mindset regardless if you're in the lead or not, but it's way easier if you're actually chasing.
I'm excited to not probably be in that final group and still only be being two back. I can make eagle on the first hole tomorrow, and all of a sudden I'm tied for the lead. I'm excited for that. I'm excited to post a number and hopefully apply some pressure on the guys behind me or just post a low enough number to where I don't have to worry about anything.
Q. What's the biggest thing about winning on the PGA TOUR that you've learned this year?
BEN GRIFFIN: The biggest thing about winning that I've learned? You've got to be aggressive the entire time. No lead is really safe, especially at a course like this where the 18th hole guys are making eagles or have a chance to.
I know that if I have a two or threeshot lead, it's not necessarily safe. I've got to stay pretty aggressive. I've seen crazy things happen in the past at TOUR events where guys hole out shots or guys make an eagle on the last, and all of a sudden, someone might have thought they had a good chance of winning and then they're going to a playoff or what-not.
I've got to be extremely aggressive but smart and steady. The wind can pick up out here a little bit, so keeping the ball in front of me as much as possible is important, and yeah, just got to stay aggressive and hopefully shoot a low enough one.
Q. You broke through this year with a win, then you won again. You're staring down a third win. What would you tell yourself last year even or maybe five years ago, giving yourself these opportunities week after week on the PGA TOUR?
BEN GRIFFIN: Yeah, I would say I knew when I finally was going to break through and win, I knew it was going to kind of build some confidence in me. You see so many guys out here win and then they go on a little run and they win a couple times. I knew that was going to happen with me. I just had that belief. It's not like a cocky belief, but it's just one of those things you have to have out here.
Yeah, I can lean on a couple of those wins. Garrick has won a couple of times so he's going to be able to lean on those. His previous two wins he came from behind significantly. It's going to be a little different for him probably tomorrow being in the lead.
But yeah, look, going back five years ago I'd just be happy to be on the PGA TOUR. But now I've gotten to the point where my game is pretty strong, and I feel very confident against a lot of these guys. I've got to go out there and continue to prove it week in and week out because there's a lot of really talented players, and you've got to make a lot of birdies and play good to win, and hopefully I can get it done and get three tomorrow.
