Q. Garrick, career low round today, 61. Can you talk through what was working out there for you?
GARRICK HIGGO: I guess everything. Hit it great, made a lot of good putts and chipped in once. Yeah, just everything was really solid and took advantage of opportunities that I had.
Q. You're coming off three straight top 10s so far this fall. Is there anything that you've been working on that you've noticed kind of has been working well this week especially?GARRICK HIGGO: Not really anything new, no, just doing a lot of the same stuff. Like I said, it's nice not to be injured, so I'm able to practice normally.
I just think a lot of the stuff that I've been doing well this year I'm continuing to do even better.
Q. Hole 15 today in particular was a challenge for a lot of people. Can you talk through what it looked like out there?
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, it's a crazy pin. It's a bit of a crazy green, but I guess it's the only defense. Yeah, I drove it down there. I had a gap wedge in, and I went pretty much middle green, which is not like any of the other holes we've played this whole week.
Q. You have in your Instagram bio that you like to read and that you'd rather be reading. Is there a particular book that has shape your career?
GARRICK HIGGO: No, so many. I'm currently reading Viktor Frankl's book. Yeah, there's so many. I just love reading. I'll be reading later.
Q. Would you rather be reading than shooting 61?
GARRICK HIGGO: No, I do enjoy shooting 61. There's just a lot of other things I don't like doing.
Q. Can you just talk through the first hole for us?
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, obviously drove it down there. Hit 4iron, which I thought would release, and it did, but it just stopped on the front. It was a pretty simple chip, but I had to just get it over the downslope, otherwise it would have kicked. Yeah, I did that, and it went in.
Q. In the past you talked about your driving and how you've worked on that over probably the last five years of your professional career. With the fairways being so wide, do you just feel so freed up here that you're just focusing on maybe a small thing in other parts of your game?
GARRICK HIGGO: I mean, it does make it nice. Courses like Wyndham and San Antonio it's really tight. It's a bit harder for me.
But accuracy off the tee is something that I've been trying to work on ever since I've turned pro. So it is nicer this week. But sometimes it's weird when the fairways are that wide that you can actually lose a bit of focus. Like you said, you still have to step up and pick a good target and try and hit it to a small spot.
Q. How does this course adjust to your game?
GARRICK HIGGO: It's pretty good. My irons have been a weakness for me, so this week or the whole year that's been a focus. Obviously this week you're not really going to miss any fairways, so hitting good iron shots and putting well is a good recipe for this week, and I feel like I've been doing a good job of that.
Q. Erik van Rooyen won here two years ago. Did he give you any advice? You were paired with him in the first two rounds.
GARRICK HIGGO: I played with him and Austin, who won last year, the first two days, and I joked with them, I'll just watch you guys and do the same.
Q. One way to take advantage of moving day is to shoot your career low round on the PGA TOUR, a 61. How were you able to take advantage of today's scoring conditions?
GARRICK HIGGO: Just made a lot of 3s and 4s. I hit it well. Kind of played similar to the way I played yesterday morning. I think I shot 29 to begin, as well. I tried to make a point of it today to finish well.
Q. Yesterday I was walking with your wife for a little bit, and I said, how's it going; she said, it's great when you're playing injuryfree, referencing the torn labrum that you had earlier this year. What's your recovery been like to get back to a place where you can turn it around like this?
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, it's still torn, but just managing the symptoms. That's kind of it. Trying to not make it worse, so doing stuff in the gym that will kind of strengthen the joint, like stabilize it at least. I hope I don't get any new injuries; that would be great.
Q. Our announcers have been calling you Mr. Fall, referencing the top 10, top 5 and runnerup finishes that you've had so far. What have you been focusing on that's allowed you to turn in those types of results and take advantage of these fall events?
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, I think it's a lot of the same stuff. My hip definitely took away a lot of my momentum after the PGA. I had to take like five or six weeks off. I feel like I'm back to where I was before and obviously playing great. Just doing a lot of the same stuff.
Q. Walk me through your opening hole, the par-5.
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, hit a good second shot. Thought I was going to be able to run it up there and left it short of the green, which was not the best spot to be. But hit a nice chip, pitched it on the green, it grabbed, released and went in.
Q. You carried an awful lot of momentum because you picked up birdies at 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, turned in 29. Were you aware of the score or were you able to stay in the moment?
GARRICK HIGGO: No, I'm always aware. I did the same yesterday, and I obviously didn't finish the way I would have liked. That was a big focus, trying to just keep making as many birdies as I can. It's one of those type of courses where you're just going to have to keep making a lot of birdies.
Q. I didn't think you fully took advantage of the par5s the first two rounds. 5under par on the par5s today. You had nothing higher than a 4 on your scorecard.
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, it's funny you say that. Walking up the 6th, I think, the par5, I said to my caddie, it would be nice to birdie this hole for the first time because I think I bogeyed it once and obviously made a par yesterday.
Q. I was talking during the round about your life. When you're young, you lose your father at the age of nine and Gary Player steps in. It's a relationship that you've had for 20 years now. Talk about what Gary Player has meant to your life.
GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, spoke to him last week. He turned 90, as you would have seen. Yeah, he's great. I think he'll live well over 100, I'm sure. Yeah, just a great role model for everybody, I guess, everybody who plays the game.
Q. Thoughts going into the final round?GARRICK HIGGO: Just more of the same. Just going to try to take it low.
