MODERATOR: Morning. We would like to welcome Nico Echavarria to the media center here at the Worldwide Technology Championship. Nico is returning to this event, which he finished tied for sixth last year, so it was a great start last year here at El Cardonal.
Nico, first of all, your impressions on being back in Mexico and the vibe that you get from the fans and having the opportunity to play in Latin America?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Yeah, happy to be back here. It's playing like you're playing in your home country, speaking your first language is incredible. We don't get the opportunity to do it a lot, so when you get to these places, you kind of soak it all in and enjoy the week. They treat us very well. World Wide Technology puts on a great show and we're very thankful to World Wide Technology to be a faithful sponsor of the Tour.
MODERATOR: You had a strong performance last year, you were tied for the lead halfway through the tournament, finished tied for sixth. What did you learn about this place the last couple of years that will help you stay in contention?
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Yeah, it's a course that depends on how much wind there is. Usually if there's not a lot of wind, there's going to be low scores so you have to be aggressive. You have to attack a lot of pins, make a lot of birdies and just play well. It's a course that the main defense, how I said, is the wind. It just depends on the tee time that you have and the conditions.
MODERATOR: What's your assessment overall of your season performance? You're coming out of a top10 in Japan where you were the defending champion. You've been playing really well this year.
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Yeah, it's been a really good year. It's a matter of feeling comfortable out here. These guys are really good. My game has progressed in a very positive way, feeling comfortable out there. More playing to win tournaments instead of playing to make the cut. That mindset is huge out here. Once you believe you can win, it's a whole different ballgame.
It's been fun. It's been fun to play different courses and play all the majors this year was really cool for me. And the game right now, it's in a good spot. So happy to be here, happy to be playing.
MODERATOR: You have a wedding on the schedule coming soon. Tell me about that.
NICO ECHAVARRIA: Yeah, we're getting married November 29th in Puntacana. We're very excited. To be honest, Claudia has been planning a lot. I've been practicing and hitting a lot of balls, she's been doing most of the planning. So I'm very grateful to have her. Yeah, hopefully we finish the year strong and we can get ready for that.
