Facing a three-shot deficit, Charley Hoffman rallied in the final round up until the last hole to claim the championship at the 2014 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. He finished with a 5-under-par 66 in the final round of competition to close at a tournament total of 17-under-par 267.
The 37-year-old, originally from San Diego, Calif., won his third victory on the PGA TOUR, previously winning the 2007 Humana Challenge and the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship.
“It’s been awhile between wins,” Hoffman said. “I kept calm and kept hitting good shots.”
He referred to it as a low-stress round, with a few exceptions, including the final hole on El Camaleón golf course at this Mexican resort where his tee shot came to rest against a tree left of the fairway. Hoffman was forced to chip back to the fairway with a left-handed stroke before making bogey to hang on for a one-shot victory.
